2010 Racing Season - race #1 Liberty Raceway Park-King of Clones series

Saturday was our first race of the season as well as the first race in the King of Clones series at liberty raceway park. The morning started off a little chilly but quickly warmed up. We made it to the track around 11 to unload and get ready for practice at 12-of course at liberty that means practice wasn't until 1 because they are always behind..anyways, ill stop there because I could continue with complaints. Mitchell and Nikki also came to I've us some help and support!
Practice went well for me. I went out in our first round practice with the cones up and that went well. Lap times aren't really that important at that point since the cones were up. Jordan went out for a couple practices to make sure everything was set-up and handling good for the night. His practices went well also.
Dad and Paw Paw made it out to watch about time for qualifying and were a big help to us all day!
Qualifying finally came around and I was sure I would do well but the kart was too loose which gave me a pretty horrible qualifying run. I qualified 3rd, unfortunately, there were only 3 of us! I was so disappointed because I haven't qualified that bad in a LONG time! I was half a second off! Anyways...Jordan went out and had 2 decent runs, 5th for medium and 6th for heavy.
Since we are running the Clone series, we had to wait around for the local points series to finish up their races. Jordan was the first class of with the Medium Clones, he did well, got tangled up and his chain fell off which put him in the back under caution. He did great and came back up to finish 5th. In these clone races there is a claim rule that allows the top 5 or so to buy the motor from the winner for $225, or $325 depending on much of the "accessories" you want to purchase. at liberty, 5th place has the first option to buy the winners motor(besides the track of course which ...again, i wont get in to that) So the track bought the motor but was nice enough to sell it to Jordan. Because Chavis (that's whose motor we bought) had other classes to run he was allowed to use it for the remainder of the night. After Medium with Jordan we had to rush to get the kart ready for my class, amateur. Thankfully Dad and Mitchell were there to help. As I said before I had a horrible qualifying run but that didn't slow me down in the race. We took the green flag and I was second immediately but the caution came out because it wasn't a great start. Again we took the green flag and I was right back in second. It took me about 3 laps or so to set up my pass to first. I wanted to make sure I had it set up perfectly so as not to upset the kart or spin myself out. I led the remainder of the race and took the win by a straightaway! Great way to start off the season! Again, we were rushing to get the kart ready for Jordans race. He made it in time and started 6th. Once again he had a great run as well and ended up 5th. There were more karts in his class of course so 5th is a good finish! Everyone rushed to buy Chavis' motor because he put a straightaway on the field as well but, SORRY! Its already sold :) to Jordan! Anyways, we had a great night and came away with a win and two 5ths, as well as a new motor. I should have walked away with a 2010 King of Clones trophy but again...the track wasn't prepared and only had 2009 trophies. They are supposed to have it ready for me next time. I hope I actually get a current one when i go back. (My class is $10 trophy class/no money paid out unless a special money race)
All and all it was a good day. We were safe and had a good time and good finishes...i cant wait to go back but it looks like Ill be waiting a while. Our next King of Clones race is May 1st but its possible we may not be able to resist the racing urge and head to Coleridge Speedway on April 10th. ill post a few pictures later on!
